Credit card statement PDF to Excel
Credit card statements reverse the usual signs: a charge increases the balance owed. CSVLedger detects card statements and reconciles them as previous balance + charges − payments and credits = new balance, then exports Excel, CSV, QBO or Xero CSV with charges negative and payments positive.

Credit card statements work differently from bank statements: a charge increases what you owe. CSVLedger detects card statements and applies the right arithmetic.
What is different about card statements
- Signs are reversed. On a card statement a purchase is printed as a positive number and a payment as negative (or with "CR"). For bookkeeping, a purchase is money out, so CSVLedger flips the sign.
- Two dates per line. Many issuers print a transaction date and a posting date. The first (transaction) date is kept.
- Year boundaries. A statement closing in January often contains December purchases with no year printed. The year is inferred from the statement period.
- Different labels. "Previous balance" and "New balance" play the role of opening and closing balance.
Using the result
Download Excel for review and expense analysis, or the QBO / Xero CSV export to load the card transactions into your accounting software. The Analysis tab totals spending by month and by payee.
Bank-specific download formats
Before converting, check whether your bank already offers the file you need and how far back: US bank statement format guide (Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi, Capital One, U.S. Bank, PNC, Truist, TD Bank (US), American Express, Discover, Chime, Ally Bank, SoFi).
Frequently asked questions
Why are the charges negative in my export?
Because a charge is money spent. QuickBooks and Xero both expect card purchases as negative amounts and payments to the card as positive amounts.
Does it handle foreign-currency transactions?
Lines are read as printed. When a line shows both a foreign amount and the converted amount, check that the account-currency amount was taken; if the wrong one was used, the totals will not reconcile and the result is flagged.
What if my card statement shows rewards or interest summaries?
Summary boxes and rewards sections are ignored. Interest and fees that appear as transaction lines are included like any other charge.
Is my bank statement uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is opened and converted by JavaScript running in your browser tab (using Mozilla's open-source pdf.js library). The file is not sent to CSVLedger or anyone else. You can confirm this in your browser's developer tools: the Network tab shows no request containing your file.
Is it free?
During the beta you can convert up to 10 pages per day in each browser without an account. Paid plans with higher limits are planned but not on sale yet; see the pricing page.
