Bank of America statement formats: CSV, QFX, QBO and PDF
Bank of America says credit card customers can request up to 12 months of detailed transaction information in Online Banking and download transactions for use with financial management software. When a period is outside that window, or you only have the PDF, CSVLedger converts the Bank of America PDF statement to Excel, CSV, QBO or Xero CSV in your browser and checks the totals against the printed balances.

What a Bank of America PDF statement contains
Checking and savings statements must show, under the CFPB's Regulation E (12 CFR 1005.9(b)): the amount and date of each electronic transfer, its type, the account number, fees, and the balance at the beginning and close of the period. Those opening and closing balances are what CSVLedger reconciles against.
Credit card statements must show, under Regulation Z (12 CFR 1026.7): the previous balance, each transaction, credits, fees and interest, the closing date of the billing cycle and the new balance. On a card, purchases increase the balance and payments reduce it, the opposite of a checking account.
These are legal minimums, not a description of this bank's exact layout. We have not verified the layout against real statements from this bank.
Common pitfalls
- If your accounting software needs a QFX or QBO file and only CSV or PDF is available, you need to convert.
- Older statements may have to be requested first, then downloaded as PDF.
- Statements downloaded from online banking are text PDFs and convert directly. Scanned or photographed paper statements have no text layer and are not supported yet.
Convert a Bank of America PDF statement with CSVLedger
- Download the statement PDF from Bank of America online banking.
- Open the converter for the format you need: Excel, CSV, QBO, Xero CSV or credit card to Excel.
- Drop the PDF. It is read in your browser and not uploaded.
- Check the badge: Reconciled means opening balance + credits − debits equals the printed closing balance (method).
- Download, then import (QuickBooks Online, Xero).
CSVLedger has no per-bank template and we have not tested every Bank of America layout; the reconciliation check is what tells you whether a particular statement was read correctly. See all banks in the US bank statement format guide.
