Chase statement formats: CSV, QFX, QBO and PDF
Chase says that on a desktop computer you can download transactions from Spending Planner as CSV, QFX, QIF or QBO files covering the last two years. When a period is outside that window, or you only have the PDF, CSVLedger converts the Chase PDF statement to Excel, CSV, QBO or Xero CSV in your browser and checks the totals against the printed balances.

Official sources (checked October 29, 2026):
Not verified
- How many years of PDF statements Chase keeps online (third-party sites say seven years; we did not find it on a Chase page).
- Whether the activity download is capped at a fixed number of rows (claimed by some third-party sites; not confirmed by Chase).
What a Chase PDF statement contains
Checking and savings statements must show, under the CFPB's Regulation E (12 CFR 1005.9(b)): the amount and date of each electronic transfer, its type, the account number, fees, and the balance at the beginning and close of the period. Those opening and closing balances are what CSVLedger reconciles against.
Credit card statements must show, under Regulation Z (12 CFR 1026.7): the previous balance, each transaction, credits, fees and interest, the closing date of the billing cycle and the new balance. On a card, purchases increase the balance and payments reduce it, the opposite of a checking account.
These are legal minimums, not a description of this bank's exact layout. We have not verified the layout against real statements from this bank.
Common pitfalls
- For periods older than the two-year download window, the PDF statement is the only record you can get yourself.
- The QBO download is a file you upload to QuickBooks; QuickBooks Online limits each upload to 350 KB and 1,000 lines, so split long ranges.
- Statements downloaded from online banking are text PDFs and convert directly. Scanned or photographed paper statements have no text layer and are not supported yet.
Convert a Chase PDF statement with CSVLedger
- Download the statement PDF from Chase online banking.
- Open the converter for the format you need: Excel, CSV, QBO, Xero CSV or credit card to Excel.
- Drop the PDF. It is read in your browser and not uploaded.
- Check the badge: Reconciled means opening balance + credits − debits equals the printed closing balance (method).
- Download, then import (QuickBooks Online, Xero).
CSVLedger has no per-bank template and we have not tested every Chase layout; the reconciliation check is what tells you whether a particular statement was read correctly. See all banks in the US bank statement format guide.
